Allowing 24 inches of walking clearance at both sides and the foot of the bed, a Twin XL needs a room of roughly 7'2" × 8'8" (86" × 104").
On a split-King configuration, two Twin XL toppers keep the two halves independent — a single King topper laid across both would bridge them and defeat the articulation. Account for the two inches of added height against any headboard or rail clearance.
